| | Level: Intermediate Contributors: Community standard 06 Feb 2007 Updated 25 Apr 2007 XML Bookmark Exchange Language (XBEL) is a format for
expressing bookmarks and other such collections of Web links. It is used
as the basic storage for bookmarks in several Web browsers.
The
XML
Bookmark Exchange Language (XBEL)
[community standard] is a simple and popular
format for storing sets of Web browser bookmarks. The Python/XML special
interest group (SIG) developed XBEL in the early days of XML. Because of
its simplicity and adoption by browser vendors, it remains in heavy use,
despite the fact that there has not been much work on it lately. XBEL
uses XML's hierarchical nature to model nested folders and bookmarks,
each with the usual properties of title and URL. It takes advantage of
XML's extensibility by providing hooks for vendors to add additional
details as needed.
