This article provides a performance analysis of the pub/sub capability of IBM® WebSphere® Business Integration Event Broker Version 5.0 and IBM WebSphere MQ Version 5.3. The products are exercised in four generic scenarios that have been modelled on real business solutions involving pub/sub architecture. The results of this analysis not only refute confusing and misleading information in current circulation, regarding the performance of IBM's pub/sub products in relation to those of competitors -- they also show that WebSphere Business Integration Event Broker and IBM WebSphere MQ solve real business problems of pub/sub architecture and throughput.

This article introduces four different scenarios that are representative of the way that pub/sub is used by IBM customers. It provides you with general guidance on how to interpret performance statistics and then describes how WebSphere Business Integration Event Broker Version 5.0 and WebSphere MQ Version 5.3 Pub/Sub Broker perform in the described scenarios.
