About this course
This Web-based training course is about writing Java programs that access a database on the IBM eServer iSeries server - DB2 UDB for iSeries. This database is a member of IBM's DB2 family of products. It has some unique characteristics that an application developer needs to be aware of.
To simplify and streamline the development of such applications, you'll use an excellent development tool called WebSphere Development Studio Client Advanced Edition for iSeries V5.0.1.
In this course
This course teaches you to write Java programs that access DB2 UDB for iSeries. You'll use a development environment called WebSphere Development Studio Client for iSeries to accomplish this task. The course approaches this topic from 4 directions:
- Providing a quick introduction to JDBC technology and iSeries specific
details to access DB2 UDB on iSeries. This part of the course is essential
to understand the rest of the course.
- Showing a technology called Program Call Markup Language (PCML) to invoke
a host program on iSeries.
- Explaining the available tools to help you develop an application with a database access to iSeries.
- Optimizing your application for the best performance on iSeries.
