WebSphere® eXtreme Scale (formerly Extended Deployment
Data Grid) V6.1 allows for the development of innovative types
of applications by extending the data caching concept using
advanced features in the creation of new classes of
high-performance applications. These applications can be
realized using the ObjectGrid component in flexible scenarios
and configurations for increased levels of operational
flexibility: Simple Data/Database, Peer to Peer, Shared,
Client/Server, Real Time / Data Event Mining, and Ultra-Scale
Data Grid.
WebSphere eXtreme Scale offers a customizable, pluggable data
fabric framework that lets applications share data across a
wide range of application scenarios. Its in-memory management
capabilities can support terabytes of data spread across
thousands of servers.
The WebSphere eXtreme Scale ObjectGrid feature is designed to
execute in a managed environment, but is also capable of
running within any Java 2 Platform Enterprise Edition (J2EE)
or Java 2 Standard Edition (J2SE) JVM running on at least J2SE
1.4.2 JDK. Non-WebSphere servers can use the ObjectGrid
feature to provide a common object-caching approach across
heterogeneous deployments.
