1.0 Introduction

This readme describes functionality that is associated with using the ClearCase tools in Eclipse.

After installing the ClearCase SCM Adapter, you can refer to the online Help for more information about using this product. To view the online Help for the Rational ClearCase SCM Adapter:

1. In Eclipse, select Help > Help Contents. 
2. In the Help dialog, select Rational ClearCase SCM Adapter.

Note: The online Help frequently refers to the Rational Developer product. For the purposes of this Help, you can interpret references to the Rational Developer product in the online Help as references to Eclipse. 

2.0 Supported software and specifications

The ClearCase SCM adapter requires the following software:

• One of the following platforms: Windows 98, Windows ME, Windows NT^R 4.0, Windows 2000, Windows XP Professional, SLES 9, Red Hat Enterprise 2.1, or Red Hat Enterprise 3.0
• Eclipse 3.0 or later
• ClearCase 5.0 or later (ClearCase or ClearCase LT) with the latest patches. The following table lists the patches required for each version of Rational ClearCase:

3.0 Installing the ClearCase SCM Adapter

To install the Rational ClearCase SCM Adapter, take the following steps:

1. Download the Rational ClearCase com.rational.clearcase.win32-20041021.zip if you are running on Windows or the com.rational.clearcase.linux-20041021.zip file if you are running on Linux. Extract the contents of the file to a directory in your file system.
   
2. In Eclipse, choose Help > Software Updates > Manage Configuration. In the Product Configuration window, click the Add an Extension Location link in the Eclipse Platform pane.
3. The Browse for Folder dialog prompts you to choose an extenstion location, expand the My Computer entry and navigate to the directory that contains the contents of the extracted zip file. Expand the eclipse folder and click OK.
   
4. The Install/Update dialog prompts you to restart the workbench. Click Yes.
   
5. In the Eclipse window, click Window > Customize Perspective.
   
6. In the Customize Perspective dialog box, click the Commands tab, ensure that the ClearCase option under the Available command groups column is checked and click OK.

The ClearCase menu option appears in the main menu of your Eclipse window, the ClearCase icons appear, and the installation of the ClearCase SCM Adapter is complete.

4.0 Changes from the previous major release

The following ClearCase options have changed or are no longer supported in the current version of the ClearCase SCM Adapter:

• The Connect to Rational ClearCase option on the ClearCase menu can now be toggled on and off. When this option is on, the user is connected to ClearCase, a check mark appears next to the option name, and the ClearCase menu options are active. When this option is off, the user is disconnected from ClearCase, the check mark disappears, and the ClearCase menu options are no longer active.
• The Window > Preferences > Workbench > Label Decorations > ClearCase preference is now the Window > Preferences > Workbench > Label Decorations > ClearCase SCM Adapter option
• The Window > Preferences > Team > Rational ClearCase option is now the Window > Preferences > Team > Rational ClearCase SCM Adapter option

The following options are new in the current version of the ClearCase SCM Adapter:

• The Join Project option on the ClearCase menu
• The Diff Merge Patterns ClearCase SCM Adapter preferences page
• The Do not hijack in snapshot views ClearCase SCM Adapter preference option
• The Always hijack in snapshot views ClearCase SCM Adapter preference option
• The Hijack in snapshot views when disconnected ClearCase SCM Adapter preference option

Note: The Diff Merge Patterns option is only active if you have the IBM Compare and Merge plugin installed on your machine.
